Samsung Galaxy A34: A Mid-Range Phone with Solid Features and 5G Support
Released in March 2023, the Samsung Galaxy A34 is a mid-range smartphone that strikes a balance between performance, display quality, and battery life. Aimed at users who want modern features without paying flagship prices, this device is part of Samsung’s popular A-series lineup and comes with notable improvements in display technology and connectivity.
Display and Design
The Galaxy A34 features a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. With a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 1000 nits, the screen offers smooth visuals and good outdoor visibility. The 20:9 aspect ratio ensures an immersive experience whether you’re watching videos, browsing the web, or playing games. Additional features include HDR support, an ambient light sensor, and a proximity sensor.
Despite being made mostly from plastic, the phone has a sturdy feel in the hand. Its dimensions are 161.3 x 78.1 x 8.2 mm, with the rear camera bump extending the thickness to 9.26 mm. Weighing 199 grams, it’s solid but not too heavy. The Galaxy A34 is also rated IP67 for water and dust resistance, offering extra durability for everyday use. It’s available in four eye-catching colors: Awesome Graphite, Awesome Lime, Awesome Silver, and Awesome Violet.
Performance and Software
Powering the device is the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset, built on a 6nm process. The octa-core processor runs at up to 2.6GHz and is paired with the Mali-G68 MC4 GPU. This setup provides a smooth user experience for multitasking and casual gaming. The phone comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD card up to 1TB, giving users ample space for apps, photos, and media.
The Galaxy A34 ships with Android 13 out of the box and has already received an upgrade to Android 14. Samsung continues to support the A-series with regular software updates, which is a significant plus for users who value long-term usability.
Camera System
On the back, the Galaxy A34 boasts a triple-camera setup. The primary sensor is a 48MP shooter with optical image stabilization (OIS) and autofocus, designed for sharp and stable photos even in less-than-ideal lighting. It features an f/1.8 aperture and a 26mm focal length. The 8MP ultra-wide camera captures broader scenes, while a 5MP macro lens allows for detailed close-up shots. The LED flash supports photography in darker environments.
For video, the rear cameras are capable of recording in 4K at 30 frames per second. The front-facing camera is a 13MP sensor that also supports 4K video capture, making it suitable for high-quality selfies and video calls.
Battery and Charging
The Galaxy A34 includes a 5000mAh battery that provides all-day battery life for most users. Whether you’re streaming content, browsing social media, or playing games, the phone can easily keep up. It supports fast charging with a wired speed of up to 25W, which helps reduce downtime when you’re in a rush. However, the charger is sold separately.
Connectivity and Other Features
As a 5G-ready device, the Galaxy A34 supports a wide range of 5G and 4G bands, ensuring strong connectivity in most regions. It also includes dual SIM support (with a shared slot for microSD), making it a good option for frequent travelers or users who want to separate work and personal lines.
The phone features an optical in-display fingerprint sensor for secure and convenient unlocking. Physical buttons for volume and power are located on the right side of the device.
